Who We Are
PRINCIPLES
Dar al-Zahra (UK) is community charitable organisation that is run by women and serves women in Liverpool, UK and beyond. Our principles are based upon three fundamentals, knowledge, practice and Da'wa.
VISION
To produce Muslim women scholars and leaders of the future through fostering an environment that allows young women to explore their faith based upon traditional knowledge and practice.
CORE VALUES
We are a sunni based centre of learning. We do not exclude other faiths or other denominations of Islam from participating in our activities but our curriculum and activities revolve around traditional sunni Islamic practice.
Our activities of learning have been designed to give young women a sense of what it means to be Muslim and gain insight into their own selves and their place in society as a young Muslim woman living in the UK.
Curriculum
CORE SUBJECTS
Subjects covered will vary depending on the course taken but some key areas focussed on in Liverpool are as below...
Qur'an (Tajwid)
The study of how to recite the Qur’an in the way that it was revealed.
Students will cover the rules and principles of correct recitation of the Qur’an, moving through levels 1-7, beginning with correct articulation of single letters to our most advanced students studying towards an Ijāza.
Creed ( Aqīdah )
Principles of Faith in God, the Messengers, the scriptures, the angels, the Day of Judgement and Predestination.
Students will learn the basic principles of Sunni Islamic belief through evidence based learning from the Qur’an and the Sunna, they will also explore the logical proofs as laid down by the scholars of theology.
Prophetic Biography (Sīrah)
The life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Students will explore the life and living of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him}.
Prophetic biography will include the important role women played in the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and their essential role in helping establish the foundations of the first community of Muslims.
Jurispudence (Fiqh)
Islamic fundamentals and practice of sacred law such as purification, prayer, and fasting.
Students will study the essentials of Islam from the point of view of the law.
They will study legal rulings such as wajib, mandub, mubah, makru, haram, and the like as they pertain to basic practice.
Spirituality (Ādāb)
The study of God consciousness and the internal practice of the faith. Exploring the three central areas of soul, heart and spirit.
In addition, the area of spirituality focuses on improving one's etiquette with others and importantly in the presence of God.
Sports
Students will engage in sunna sports and activities such as archery and horse riding as well as other sports that aim to help build confidence.
Identifying who they are as young Muslim women as well as gain the ability of working together as part of a student community.
Arts & Drama
Students will engage in art and drama workshops.
Activities such as: learning to play the duff (traditional drum); singing and writing Nashids (songs of praise); Islamic arts, and exploring their faith through drama.
Community Service ( Khidmah)
Students will engage in activities linked to their learning such as organising their own fundraising events and engaging in community service.
They will also explore ways to support each other with elements of their faith.
